This program was designed to give adults the opportunity to increase their knowledge and awareness of their dental hygienic condition.
At Victoriapark Dental, we provide our patients with the needed resources and techniques that are useful for their specific dental situation, giving them the ability to manage their oral health between dental appointments. We focus on empowering our patients through inspiration, positive reinforcement, and teaching to help them reach their oral health goals.
We start by evaluating your medical and dental history, taking note of any pre-existing health issues, your current medications, or anything that may effect your potential treatment or the overall health of your teeth or body. More specifically, this would include any dietary restrictions, current health status, energy levels, stress levels, or busy schedules.
Another unique value we offer at Victoriapark Dental is a chewable plaque tablet that helps to reveal the areas of plaque build-up in your mouth. When you don’t brush or floss regularly or properly, plaque builds up and hardens. When this happens, it creates an ideal environment for bacteria to spread while living off sugars and other foods that are still in your mouth and between your teeth. Acid is then produced that contribute to the irreversible deterioration of your tooth’s hard surface layer, called enamel. After chewing the plaque tablet, we are able to see and notify you of the areas you are missing with your brushing and flossing habits.
Over the course of the program, your dentist will discuss with you the main causes of cavities and how to avoid them with a proper at home hygiene regimen, including the use of fluoride and antibacterial rinses. Your dentist will also discuss your risk of gingivitis and periodontal disease based on your oral health status, brushing and flossing improvements, teeth grinding or clenching while sleeping, gum recession, stained teeth, and the condition of your tempro-mandibular joints.
As studies continue to highlight the connection between an individual’s oral health and their body’s overall health, we continue to emphasize this fact to our patients, creating awareness for a bigger picture than just the health of your mouth. We discuss the link between the two in depth, and the associated risks involved between active oral diseases and systemic issues that may arise. We also offer Nutritional Counselling if necessary. Your dentist will also recommend any resources that may help you improve your at-home oral health routine and habits, including techniques and various tools.
